The Hiphop University
The Hiphop University is a collaborative resource for hiphop scholars and those who study hiphop culture. Its purpose is to: (1) facilitate discussion in academic arenas about hiphop culture, politics, art, values, histories, etc; (2) expand communication and knowledge about scholarship relating to hiphop, (3) share overall information about hiphop research and scholarship, (4) maintain and build standards of hiphop scholarship, (5) work with educational and academic institutions to incorporate hiphop's notion of meritocracy where skills and knowledge are supreme and (6) to encourage youth to pursue knowledge and their dreams.
We are uncompromising in our commitment to build and support intellectually challenging and innovative scholarship that both reflects the rigor and achievement of performance in Hiphop and transforms our thinking and our lives.

Hip-Hop and Don’t Stop:Introduction to Modern Speech Communities
Marcyliena Morgan, Stanford University
Hiphop is a global phenomenon that influences social and cultural life far beyond the music and entertainment industries. As such, it is poised to make a lasting impression on our understanding of African American, Latino, working class and general American youth character, identity and culture. Yet beyond descriptions and critiques of its mass appeal, few have considered Hiphop’s development of standards and evaluations across all artistic areas and culture. The special topic for this year is: WOMEN IN HIPHOP.

HIP HOP CONGRESS MINNESOTA SUMMIT:
“Politics, Globalization and the Hip Hop Generation” February 16 - February 18 2007 , CONCORDIA COLLEGE
Don’t fall into the trap of assuming that Hip Hop Congress means drugs, guns, and scantily clad women. We highlight the entire Hip Hop spectrum and advocate a broader vision of Hip Hop culture than the stereotypes often seen on TV and Radio. Hip Hop Congress (HHC) is an International Grassroots Network that educates, empowers, and unites individuals. We preserve and evolve Hip Hop by inspiring social action and cultural creativity within the community. Drawn from an evolving Black Historic and Cultural Forms, the Summit will be an opportunity to connect this modern cultural expression to Concordia’s broader programming in celebration of Black History Month.
