Thursday, August 15 through Sunday,
August 18 are the dates that have been set for Japan’s annual B.boy Park
Festival. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, we are
expecting a magnificent turn-out as the best b.boys, emcees, graffiti artists
and deejays will once again flock to Tokyo for a number of ‘old school’-type
battles that B.boy Park traditionally hosts. Representatives from diverse
backgrounds, ranging from members of Zulu Nation Japan to ‘heads’ from the
underground, are expected to participate.
Local favorites such as Rappagariya,
DJ Yutaka and Crazy A as well as international icons such as Crazy Legs, Guru
and DJ Clue were some of the noted participants from last year’s festival.
American industries such as PNB Nation and Def Jam were also present at the
events. B-boy Park in Tokyo, Japan is probably one of the few times that the
average Hiphop fan will get to see a convergence of the African and Asian
Diasporas united in the name of Hiphop culture. Check the BITES section
of this newsletter for websites associated with this landmark event for Japanese
Hiphop.
