The purpose of this thesis is to bring a broad vision of Hiphop. Unlike how other researches have been defending, the intent of our research is to portrait this movement as a whole, in order to understand how, on one hand, there are several ways of comprehending this phenomenon, and on the other hand, the dichotomy between politics and culture becoming the debate's center of attention. Before emphasizing the polarity, our objective is to demonstrate how these concepts, all at once, dialog to each other in a likewise tense and ambiguous way. To do so, we analyze Sao Paulo's Hiphop above all from the three "posses" and from "gangster rap". Inside these places and music style, politics and culture work as a real trade off.
