| Abstract/Synopsis: | Cronicas are a popular literary genre in Latin America but less common in the Anglophone world. Chavez-Silverman (romance languages and literatures, Pomona College, CA) offers up her version of the meditative chronicles form, combining everyday observances and poetic memoir in pure Spanglish, reflecting her life in multiple lands and languages. The short pieces began, she writes, as letters-"love letters to cities, smells, people, voices and geographies I missed." They range the globe, and they range the emotions. |
