Afro-American Vernacular Music and Art

This course focuses on the socio-political dimensions of African-American musical forms, e.g. spirituals, work songs, hollers, blues, jazz, gospel, pop, soul, and rap. Related verbal genres, (sermons, toasts, etc.) will also be considered.
