Black Migration, Music and Culture in the 20th Century

This course examines the social and cultural history of four black urban communities: New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles. Focusing primarily on the mid-to-late twentieth century, this course will explore black life through historical and sociological sources, popular music forms, fiction and everyday culture.
